Freestyle is a sport kite competition concept held on a circular field about 80 metres in diameter. Pilots fly to music and must perform an aerial choreography lasting between 3 and 5 minutes, including 9 freestyle figures and following specific rules clearly defined in a rulebook. They are scored by judges.
Alongside the competition, the organisation also stages kite demonstrations and aerial ballets.
This competition format, born in the south of France, was created and is still organised by Roger Tessa-Gambassi and R-SKY Events, and is a great success with pilots from all over the world.
Few resorts have the infrastructure and experience needed for this kind of event. Portiragnes was therefore selected for its site, its wind conditions, and its large-scale activities and entertainment. It is one of the best-placed venues to host this competition.
This competition format is protected by copyright and belongs exclusively to Roger Tessa-Gambassi, who has chosen to authorise the ISKF to ensure its continuity and promotion, and R-SKY Events to run it.
